Names of God

Yahweh Shammah יהוה שׁמה

The Lord is present

The Lord is here

The Lord will be there

This name is only found in the book of the prophet Ezechiel. On one hand it is an encouragement and promise to the people of Israel in exile that God will dwell again in Jerusalem (His temple), on the other hand the prophecy also points to the millenium, when God will dwell (tabernacle) in His holy city in person and from there rule the nations.

God has a deep desire to have a close relationship with man and to live among them. The first earthly dwelling place was the tabernacle, the second one(s) the Temple and the third is the body and heart of every child of God.

Walking in reverence and intimacy before and with Him is not only the beginning of wisdom, but also a key to the heart of God in order to become whole in His presence.

So the sanctified man can glorify God in his present life through dependance and close communion with the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel 48:35b (ESV)

"And the name of the city from that time on shall be, The Lord Is There."

And the Lord said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your plea, which you have made before me. I have consecrated this house that you have built, by putting my name there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time."

Hebrews 10:19-22 (ESV)

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Ephesians 2:19-22 (ESV)

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Philippians 2:1-3 (ESV)

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

John 14:26+27 (ESV)

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
