Names of God

Adonai אדני

My Lord

The Hebrew name of God, Adonai, is the plural form of Lord (Adon and Adoni).

It expresses respect, trust and recognition of the divine supremacy of God, and testifies of leadership and protection and shows the awareness of a special belonging to God.

Jews do not use the divine name YHWH (Yahweh) out of respect for its holiness. When reading the Torah or saying prayers "Adonai" (Lord), "HaShem" (the name) and "Adoshem" are used instead.

Adonai often occurs together with YHWH (Yahweh).

The Lord (Greek Kyrios) is a rewarder of all those who believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Lord of Lords.

I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time - he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
